Institute

The Institute of Food Hygiene is part of the Centre for Veterinary Public Health of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In addition to our tasks in teaching and research, we offer services for food companies and advanced training courses for veterinarians.

STUDY

In accordance with the Veterinary Licensing Ordinance, we teach the specialties of food, dairy and meat hygiene.

Research

The objective of our research is to ensure a high level of consumer protection. In addition to pathogen-based basic research, our institute has a microbiology-technology-oriented research profile.

Our institute is located in the southwest of Leipzig, only a few kilometers from the city center. You can reach us comfortably by public transport or also by car.

Directions

From the main train station you can reach our facility in about 15 minutes by streetcar line 16 (direction Lößnig). At the exit stop Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (German National Library) you can reach us on Semmelweisstraße in approx. 5 minutes on foot in the direction of travel. Our institute is located at the corner of Semmelweisstr./An den Tierkliniken on the left side.

From platform 1 at the main station you can also reach us with all S-Bahn lines. Please leave the S-Bahn at the stop Leipzig-MDR, turn right and you will see our institute at the next street crossing.

By car you can reach Leipzig via the freeways A9 (Berlin - Nürnberg), A 14 (Halle - Dresden) or A 38 (Göttingen - Leipzig).

Please use the parking facilities:

  • directly on the faculty premises (main entrance: street An den Tierkliniken),
  • on the grounds across the street (entrance on the right opposite the main entrance of the faculty, fee required) or
  • on the open-air ground at Deutsches Platz (entrance from Straße des 18. Oktobers, free of charge).

From the airport, take the S-Bahn (line S5/S5X in the direction of Leipzig) to the Leipzig-MDR stop.
