After extensive renovation, we were finally able to move into our new laboratories and offices at An den Tierkliniken 29 on 10 September 2020.

With the nomination of our institute director Prof. Christoph Baums in 2014, the first planning discussions for the renovation activities began. This was because work with genetically modified pathogens of risk group 2 such as isogenic Streptococcus suis mutants had not been possible until then. In order to keep the research with S2 pathogens running, we were able to use the laboratories of the Institute of Immunology as an interim solution. In 2017 our PCR laboratory was completed and in September of this year the remaining laboratories and rooms in the ground floor and basement were completed. Our ultra-modern laboratories meet all the requirements of an S2 laboratory and finally enable us to carry out genetic engineering work at security level 2. We feel very much at home and are delighted with the regained spaciousness, order and freedom of movement. And in our new common room, everyone can finally take a break together again, if the corona virus wouldn't keep us at a distance.
