Doctoral Student of ZIM receives Wilhelm Ellenberger Prize

Mrs. Viktoria Rungelrath is on fire for bacteriology. She has demonstrated this with her outstanding dissertation on "Characterisation of IgG proteolysis by Streptococcus phocae subsp. phocae and IgM proteolysis by Streptococcus suis". Their commitment was acknowledged accordingly on 28.06.2019…


The Institute of Bacteriology and Mycology belongs to the Centre for Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Our tasks include teaching and research. We offer a service for microbiological diagnostics and supervise the Core Unit CUMI.

Service for Diagnostics

Bacteriological and mycological analyses

We examine clinical sample materials and organs as part of veterinary diagnostics. In addition, we prepare antibiotic resistance profiles and examine feed and water samples.

Our institution is located in the southwest of Leipzig, only a few kilometres from the city centre. You can reach us comfortably by public transport or by car. There are plenty of parking spaces on the old exhibition grounds.
