Project:

A God who judges?

In the research project, the topic of wrath, God's visitation and judgment will be dealt with in its entirety: in the OT and NT, in church history (Luther), in systematic theology, in liturgy and preaching, in religious education, the humanities, interreligious comparison and art. A God who acts through judgment and grace - indeed, whose grace works through his judgment (“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”) is now widely unknown. To paraphrase Bonhoeffer, theology and the church today talk and think far too comfortably about God. But the biblical God is anything but harmless. Woe betide anyone who falls into the hands of the living God, according to both the OT and the NT! Theologians of the last century such as Karl Barth and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, but also Rudolf Otto, knew something about this.
