Due to the semester PAUL regularly offers small group courses with supporting tutors. This is the current programme:

Here you can find short information on the different courses. The availability depends on the semester.

The first semester is full of basic sciences. So this course offers the possibility to breathe a bit of veterinary air. During 90 minutes there is a short overview about PAUL and basic practical training under supervision of the student tutors. The stations used are suturing, aseptic dressing and basics in intubation.

The course is only available in wintersemester and especially for the first semester students. The course takes place at PAUL thursdays between 8.15 and 9.45, exact dates are announced in the beginning of semester.

Ran ans Pferd is especially for students who like to gather experiences with horses. It is part of the project "Lebende Simulatoren - ein Widerspruch?!" (living simulators - a contradiction? together with the university project Laboruniversität.

Small group courses with student supervisors connect the training using simulators with real patient contact. Topics are handling, general examination, age determination via teeth in horses. In the furture further topics shall be implemented.

LaborUniversität is part of the Leipzig University project „StiL – Studieren in Leipzig“ for quality improvement of education and studies. It is financially supported till end of 2020 by Qualitätspakt Lehre, an initiative of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Fit für die Rotation is a preparation course for the clinical rotation at the Department for Horses, it is especially meant to students in their 5th year. During the course theoretical knowledge should be mixed up with practical training. Topics are Basics of handling horses (body language, head collars, bridles, leading and controlling a horse, presenting a horse in walk and trot), medical basics like bandaging, administering eye drugs, feeling the pulse, palpation of pulsation on the limbs, fixation techniques, behaviour in an emergency situation and furthermore.

The course is done by student tutors, the participants get a handout in the end with the most importand information.

 

Fit für die Rotation is planned and will take place after the COVID-19 pandemics.
