Within the scope of extensive epidemiological studies, an interdisciplinary team around Dr. Michael Sieg was able to prove for the first time the presence of a new feline paramyxovirus in domestic cats in Germany. The results of this research were published in the internationally renowned magazine "Viruses" in 2019, for which Dr. Sieg was awarded the Hans Schleiter Prize for the "best publication achievement from the junior scientific staff at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Leipzig 2019".

The foundation of this extensive publication performance with the title: „A New Genotype of Feline Morbillivirus Infects Primary Cells of the Lung, Kidney, Brain and Peripheral Blood“ was the excellent cooperation and the personal commitment of all co-authors from different departments of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine as well as from non-faculty institutions. At this point, therefore, we would like to thank Dr. Kristin Heenemann and M. Sc. Johannes Busch (Institute of Virology), Dr. Maria Eschke (Institute of Immunology), Dr. Denny Böttcher (Institute of Veterinary Pathology), Dr. Anja Reinert and Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. Henning (Institute of Veterinary Medicine). Johannes Seeger (Institute for Histology and Embryology), Prof. Romy Heilmann (Clinic for Small Animals) and Dr. Kira Scheffler (Institute for Medical Physics and Biophysics) as well as Dr. Annett Vahlenkamp (Veterinary Practice Böhlen).
