Research on horses
What is the cause of severe equine asthma? This is the question posed by the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group, which hopes to find out the causes for six years starting in 2020.
What makes the fungus cryptococcus so dangerous for the host? Which antigens of the fungus trigger an allergy? Are there target structures that can be used for diagnostics and therapy? These questions and more are investigated at the Institute of Immunology.
Research on pigs
What is the protective and pathological immune response against the porcine pathogen Streptococcus suis? How do different immune cells affect the pathogen defence? These and many other aspects are investigated in cooperation with the Institute of Bacteriology and Mycology.
Research on dogs
What functions do double-positive and double-negative T cells have in the dog? How do you participate in the immune response? These questions are being investigated in a current DFG-funded research programme.
Publications, degrees and equipment
Research results are published in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. Many research results also lead to promitions, habilitations and master theses. The Institute of Immunology has a large pool of equipment to conduct sophisticated research.
